Mickey Mouse’s first words, Mel Blanc’s exceptionally short Disney career, the 1941 Disney Strike, and the alternative names for the seven dwarfs.

In the 1941 Disney strike, Walt Disney fought the animators’ union with speeches, fists, firings, and Dumbo.


Mickey Mouse’s first words (“hot dogs!”) were spoken by Carl Stalling, future musical director of Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies.

Prior to Who Framed Roger Rabbit, voice acting legend Mel Blanc’s only contributions to Disney were three hiccups from a mute cat.

The names of the seven dwarfs from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs came from a list of more than fifty potential alternatives, including Jaunty, Burpy, Snoopy, and Awful.
