Sole survivor

On Christmas Eve 1971, a LANSA Flight 508 out of Lima was hit by lightning. It crashed into the Amazon rainforest. Ninety-one people died, but one survived: Juliane Koepcke.

Having fallen 3km, and suffering a broken collar bone and many other injuries, she nevertheless trekked through the forest for ten days and made it out alive and well. (Although one of her first acts upon finding a boat and fuel was to pour the gasoline onto her arm to remove the thirty-five maggots that were living under the skin. Ew!)
